Brave Cellars Two Roads Pinot Noir 2016 is made by none other than Tahmiene Momtazi, head winemaker at Maysara Winery in the Willamette Valley. Maysara wines are unquestionably excellent, making her (without question again) one of the best winemakers in the valley. The Demeter certified biodynamic Momtazi vineyard produces outstanding Pinot Noir in the coastal range of the Mcminnville AVA. Tahmiene and her husband Colin Smith got Brave Cellars going in 2017 and are using Pinot Noir grapes from the Momtazi vineyard in their two opening wines. The idea behind this project is to make elegant Pinot Noir’s that are also affordable, and they’ve ticked both those boxes. The Less Traveled Pinot Noir is the smokier, earthier wine of the two. You will find no better deal on Oregon Pinot Noir.

Tasting note:
The Less Traveled Pinot Noir 2106 is the ruddier, earthier wine of the two inaugural releases from Brave Cellars. The aromas are lifted and smoky, pointing to potting soil, tangy orange peel, strawberries, cherries, black pepper, and Dijon mustard. The body and acidity are comfortably medium and the tannins are low. Lastly, the finish is long and the complexity high, with many more years of development ahead. We paired it with a super umami pizza made with a sourdough crust, tangy sauce and goat cheese. This is a wilder, more rugged wine than the Two Roads, but equally a good value.
