The Bodegas Luzon Verde 2020 is made by the leading Spanish producer and exporter of the same name, stationed in Murica, Spain in the Jumilla DO wine region. They farm 500 hectares of vines, many certified organic, which lay up on a hillside, perched on a high plateau surrounded by mountains. Monastrell is the main red grape variety of the Jumilla DO and is the grape that makes this Luzon Verde. And is a grape that gets us excited for rugged, red berry flavored wines that can be dense and delicious. We stocked this wine in our pantry for it’s affinity with hearty, wintertime fare, or just sipping on its own.

Tasting note: The Luzon Verde 2020 is as youthful as you might guess. Bright with lifted, intense aromas and flavors of tart cherries and cranberries, black pepper and oregano. High-toned with a streak of tangy citrus. The alcohol is 14.5% which provides a biggish body and complimentary ripe tannins and a zip of acidity. Black pepper and dried herbs round things out, with a steady finish and enough structure for 5-10 years of positive development.
