The Domaine Les 4 Vents Les Pitchounettes Crozes-Hermitage 2012 is a wonderful Syrah made by Lucie Fourel. She took over her parents 3.5 hectares of vines in Crozes-Hermitage in 2006 and started making wine with her sister joining her in 2013. They currently farm 10 hectares of organic and biodynamic certified vines. The grapes in the Les Pitchounettes come from the Plain of Chassis, which is a vast, flat plateau composed of a thick layer of pebbles and red clay. The fruit is of excellent quality and creates a finely honed, leaner, more elegant Syrah rather than that steak-and-fire style. Last two works, Excellent quality. We look forward to tasting future vintages of wines made by these titans of Crozes.

Tasting note – We tasted this Syrah in 2023 and things are ship shape! And looking beautiful as well, the color is turning brick and the aromas and flavors are developing. Cherries, strawberries, cranberries, orange peel, black olives, wet potting soil and damp leaves. A tiny bit of residual co2 was lingering, the body, alcohol and tannins landed in the medium range and the acidity was high. Super extracted is underlined in my notes with tangy flavors, black olives being a standout flavor with a long finish and high complexity. Finally, we’re happy to report it has another 10 good years ahead of it.
