The Jean-Luc Colombo Les Collines de Laure Syrah 2018 is made from grapes growing on granite hillsides above Cornas in the Northern Rhone. Jean-Luc Colombo and his wife Anne have been working as wine consultants since the 1980’s, making universally praised wines ever since. More farm than a vineyard, their property is home to fruit trees, chickens, vegetables gardens, and flowering plants in addition to grapes. Daughter Laure joined the business in 2010 and began the process of organic certification, achieving it in 2015. Colombo wines are always high quality and one of the best values of the Northern Rhone.

Tasting note: Made from youthful Syrah vines, the Les Collines de Laure pulls fruit from Cornas, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. This youthful wine has aromas and flavors of cranberries, blackberries, raspberries and cherries. There’s a nice balancing act between dark tones and bright, ripe red tones, with a nervy, acidic energy. Lastly, these fruity tones are laced with black pepper and herbs de Provence. Lastly lastly the finish is long. The high-toned acidity will keep this wine pulsing for another ten years.
