The Matetic Corralillo Pinot Noir is made by Matetic Vineyards, one of only a few biodynamic wineries in Chile. They have a huge property, 16,000 hectares to be precise, in the San Antonio Valley in the Casablanca region. Roaming sheep, blueberry bushes and a hotel join grape vines on the property. The vines are close to the ocean which gives Matetic the benefit of the almighty diurnal shift. This shift is responsible for retaining freshness and acidity in the grapes. As a result, these wines age extremely well. We just opened a bottle of this 2016 it is developing supremely. Bright and fresh with more years to go.
Tasting note: The Pinot Noir grapes sourced for this superb wine come from the Matetic vineyards from the El Rosario Valley and Valle Hermoso area. Bathed in a maritime climate, the grapes thrive on slopes of granite, ideal for high quality Pinot Noir. Earthy flavors of strawberries, cherries, gun powder, campfire, black pepper, clove and cinnamon. The acidity level is pretty high which keeps things fresh and youthful. In addition, the high level of acidity will support many more years of positive development. Lastly, the finish is long and the food pairings are endless.
