The Thierry Tissot Bugey Gamay is made by Thierry Tissot and his wife Celine who took over the family wine estate in Bugey, France in 2000. This is a mountainous, alpine region surrounded on all sides by familiar names; Jura to the north, Savoie to the east, the Rhone down south and Beaujolais to the west. The Tissot’s set out to achieve organic certification in 2019, and engage biodynamic preparations throughout. The Tissot winery produces mostly sparkling wine, which are great, but we’re tripping on the still wines, namely this Gamay. This is like the very best Cru Beaujolais. Aromas of damp potting soil, ruddy cherry fruit flavors and general earthiness. And for a song too, unlike many of the aforementioned neighbors. Get to know Thierry and Celine’s wine and acquaint yourself with Bugey (boo-shay) wines if you haven’t already.
